Set Up Two-Factor Authentication for Your Dots Dashboard
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security to your Dots Dashboard account. When enabled, you'll need both your password and a 6-digit code from your authenticator app to log in.
Before You Begin
Install an authenticator app on your phone or computer. Popular options include:
Add the account to your authenticator app using one of these methods:
Scanning the QR code is fastest, but the setup key provides a reliable fallback if your camera isn't working or you're setting up on a device without a camera.
Option 1: Scan the QR Code
Point your authenticator app at the QR code displayed on screen. The app will automatically add the Dots account and start generating codes.
Option 2: Enter the Setup Key
If you can't scan the QR code, you can manually enter the setup key instead:
Locate the Setup key field on the 2FA setup page
Click Copy to copy the key to your clipboard
In your authenticator app, choose the option to add an account manually
Paste the setup key and give the account a name (e.g., "Dots Dashboard")
Your authenticator app will now start generating 6-digit codes for your Dots account.
Completing Setup
Enter the Code from authenticator in the verification field
Click Enable
You'll see a confirmation: Two-factor authentication enabled!
Logging In with 2FA
Once 2FA is enabled, the login flow changes:
Enter your email and password
Open your authenticator app
Enter the current 6-digit code
Click Log In
Check Skip on this browser during OTP verification to reduce how often you need to enter codes on trusted devices.
Disabling Two-Factor Authentication
If you need to turn off 2FA:
Log in to the Dots Dashboard
Navigate to your profile settings
Click Disable two-factor authentication
You'll see a confirmation: Two-factor authentication disabled
Disabling 2FA removes an important security layer. Re-enable it as soon as possible if you temporarily disable it for troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting
My authenticator codes aren't working
Authenticator codes are time-based and expire quickly, and each accepted code can be used only once. If a code was already accepted during setup or login, it won't work again, so generate a newer code before retrying. Make sure:
Your device's clock is set to automatic time sync
You're entering the current code, not an old one
You wait for a new code if the previous one expired while typing
I lost access to my authenticator app
If you can't access your authenticator app and can't log in, contact Dots support. Be prepared to verify your identity through your registered email address.
Can I set up 2FA on multiple devices?
Yes. When setting up 2FA, scan the QR code or enter the setup key on each device where you want access to codes. The setup key remains the same for your account, so you can add it to multiple authenticator apps if needed.
